Redesign Your Clothes with Inkeri Medley
Sunday 27 June 12-4.30 pm
In this workshop we will be re-working the clothes you can’t bring yourself to throw away but never wear. You will be shown techniques used by designer Inkeri Medley, including the use of elastic, drawstrings and pleating to transform your piece. There will also be the opportunity to make accessories such as corsages, belts and purses. You can either re-create an Inkeri design or work your own unique piece. Jumpers and men’s shirts are particularly versatile clothes to work with but feel free to bring what you feel needs your most urgent attention.
Innovative recycled clothes designer Inkeri Medley began her collection while studying at Goldsmiths College and went on to create her own label “inkeri” based at leading designer maker studios Cockpit Arts. Her focus is on the form of the garment, manipulating form to create a new silhouette with minimal deconstruction of the original garment. She specialises in pieces that can be worn in numerous ways. Her designs include cardigans that can be worn in up to six different ways, dresses that can be worn as shirts and many pieces that can be worn upside down.

Creative Writing Workshop with Sarah Butler
Thursday 1 July 6-8 pm
One man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure; one person’s annoying relative is the heroine of another’s novel. Come take part in a relaxed two-hour creative writing workshop led by Sarah Butler, which translates the concept of free-cycling onto the creative process.
Come with a donation – a character, an idea, a memory, an overheard conversation, a family secret: something you’re prepared to offer up to other people’s imagination. We will do a series of writing exercises, exploring participants’ offerings and finding ways to transform them into new gems of writing.
Sarah Butler writes novels and short stories. Her fiction has been published in anthologies, journals and online. She runs UrbanWords, a consultancy which develops literature projects engaging with regeneration and urban renewal. You can find out more at www.sarahbutler.org.uk and www.urbanwords.org.uk.

Eco-Build with Mark Pavey and friends
Rammed Earth: Tuesday 6 – Thursday 8 July 11-5 pm
Living Roof: Friday 9 – Sunday 11 July 11-5 pm
Come and lend a hand while learning how to use rammed earth and/or how to create a living roof. Informal and exploratory discussions will be held on site in which participants, whilst working (as well as learning about the use of different building materials), will be testing eco-ideologies and exploring the differing outlooks on sustainability. You can drop in at anytime during gallery hours or contact us in advance if you are able to dedicate more time. Our success depends upon your inclusion.
Mark Pavey is a long-time DIY optimist and pragmatic idealist. Having studied and worked within an ecologically directed environment for 15 years (and in witnessing the latest evolution of the green machine), he asserts the need to reject the liberal green washing of your mind to consume ethically. Less damaging than before is still malignant! The necessary alternative he advocates is ‘benign design’. These are living creations that enhance natural systems and are communal, cashless and creative. He is a graduate of Goldsmiths College with a BA (hons) in Eco-design and is now completing his MSc in Architecture and Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies at the Centre for Alternative Technology.
