During November artist Monica Ross has been working with children from The Cathedral Primary School of St Saviour and St Mary Overy in Southwark to internalise the rights and responsibilities to which every human being is entitled. Cathedral Primary School was the first school in the borough to achieve a Rights Respecting School Award from UNICEF.

At Southwark Cathedral on 13 November, the children of Class 4 will join Monica in a collective recitation – from memory – of the entire text of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) – Plain English version.

Act 47 is the first recitation delivered by children in Monica Ross’s ongoing performance series, Anniversary – an act of memory.

The Children of Class 4 are between 8 and 9 years old. Click here to read some of their reflections on taking part.

Act 47 is a development of Beaconsfield’s longstanding relationship with the Anniversary – an act of memory project.  This began with the first presentation of the solo performance rightsrepeated — an act of memory in Hayley Newman’s Woodshed in the exhibition Chronic Epoch, at Beaconsfield, 2005 and the publication of the limited edition poster rightsrepeated, December 2005. On 13.09.2010 Beaconsfield and Jason Bowman presented Act 13, an extraordinary recitation in 17 languages by 58 artists, and in association with Live Art Development Agency, hosted the launch of the double dvd acts of memory 2005-2010 in June 2011.
