The Foundry is a new social justice and human rights centre built in partnership with The Barlow Cadbury Trust, Ethical Property Company, Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, Lankelly Chase Foundation and Trust for London that recently opened in Vauxhall.
Beaconsfield has been invited to curate a selection of artists works to show in the public spaces of The Foundry over the coming year. Bearing in mind the purpose and usage of the building, we will choose sympathetic works without resorting to trite illustration.
On The Wire, the title of the series, refers to singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen’s lyrics – ‘like a bird on the wire… I have tried in my way to be free’. This in turn references the Declaration of Human Rights, which in Article 19 declares the right of artists to express themselves in any media. Our first selection of artists focuses on two dimensional works with artists who reflect on the human condition through a variety of frames.
