Bodil Furu/ Simon Tyszko: a special event as part of South London Art Map LAST Fridays

Friday 28 June 2013, from 6pm

6.30pm: This bird has flown…

Bodil Furu in conversation about her recent body of video works: Opera, 2008, Misty Clouds, 2011, Alnaelva, 2012, Fjell som Faller (Where Mountains Fall), 2012, Den Gamle Kinoen (The Old Cinema), 2013 (premier).

The current season of films by one of Norway’s most respected artists, Bodil Furu, have been made between 2008-2013. The programme charts the artist’s movement beyond documentation into narrative territory compelling in its engagement with the big environmental issues implicit within globalization. The artist’s interest in the way existential questions surface in a diversity of circumstances leads her to interrogate subjects close to home – such as the future of Oslo’s Alna river – and as far afield as industrial China.

8pm: Attenuated Performance In The Unfun Fair

Simon Tyzsko invites special guests Peter Lewis, Peter Suchin and Cecilia Wee to join him and David Crawforth in a discursive animation of the Unfun Fair.

The Unfun Fair is Tyszko’s unnerving composition of sound and light in Beaconsfield’s arch space, incorporating a collection of sculptures derived from a variety of discarded machines and materials: bound together by neon and 10,000 volts. The attenuated performance will be later broadcast on Resonance FM.
