Jumana Emil Abboud

Jumana Emil Abboud is a Palestinian-Canadian artist whose multidisciplinary practice explores cultural memory, lore, and entanglement across drawing, installation, performance and text. Often working with handmade inks and pigments, her drawings returns to folk tales and waterlore, reworking their afterlives through layered compositions and landscapes. Making with beeswax, olive wood, textiles and more, Jumana describes her assemblages as votives charged with imaginal and material enchantments. Abboud frames her writing and spoken-word in performance as acts of story divination where myth and lived experience converge.

Abboud has presented at Jameel Arts Centre, de Appel, Cample Line, Documenta, TAVROS, TBA21-Academy, Seoul Museum of Art, Casco Art Institute, Darat al Funun, Bildmuseet and BALTIC, and the Biennales of Diriyah, Sydney, Venice, Qalandiya, Istanbul and Sharjah. Recognitions include the Pernod Ricard Fellowship, the Jameel Fellowship at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, in collaboration with the International Glass and Visual Arts Research Centre (Cirva), Marseille (2024-2025), and shortlisting for the 2025–26 Artes Mundi 11 prize.

Abboud holds a PhD in Fine Art and is currently based in London, UK.
