Palestinian-Canadian artist Jumana Emil Abboud’s multidisciplinary practice explores cultural memory, lore, and entanglement. Abboud is known for her work with natural water sources in the occupied West Bank. As Beaconsfield’s Earth AIR she is invited to investigate the North Lambeth water table, its bearing on local climate resilience and the lived stories that might emerge.
A ‘Claude mirror’ in the V&A collection became a central tool for Jumana’s research, during her recent Jameel Fellowship at the Victoria & Albert Museum. As part of the fellowship, the artist produced similar objects with the International Glass and Visual Arts Research Centre (CIRVA), Marseille, and these form a starting point for her residency with Beaconsfield.
A number of Jumana Emil Abboud’s earlier works are available for sale in aid of Beaconsfield’s fundraising appeal.
EarthAIR is Beaconsfield’s Environmental Artist In Residence scheme for exploring environmental issues with the public through creativity and art. EarthAIRs work with Beaconsfield to address issues of sustainability by sharing their work with specific communities, exploring social and cultural contexts as well as responsibilities for the geological earth and noting relationships between organic and human environments.
