Palestinian-Canadian artist Jumana Emil Abboud’s multidisciplinary practice explores cultural memory, lore, and entanglement. Abboud is known for her work with natural water sources in the occupied West Bank. As Beaconsfield’s Earth AIR she researches the North Lambeth water table, its bearing on local climate resilience and the lived stories that might emerge.
During her recent Jameel Fellowship at the Victoria & Albert Museum, a ‘Claude mirror’ in the collection, became a central tool for her research, and similar objects produced with the International Glass and Visual Arts Research Centre (CIRVA), Marseille, form a starting point for her residency.
EarthAIR is Beaconsfield’s Environmental Artist In Residence scheme for exploring environmental issues with the public through creativity and art. EarthAIRs work with Beaconsfield to address issues of sustainability by sharing their work with specific communities while in residence, exploring social and cultural contexts as well as responsibilities for the geological earth, noting relationships between organic and human environments.
