Ten experimental sound artists are invited to explore in public the principles of self-cancellation in sound through conferencing, workshops and performance in London and Glasgow.

Flashes From the Archives of Oblivion brings together four pioneers of the performance genre with established practices that date back to the 1960s. The exhibition explores elements of each artist’s practice in relation to the discourse that surrounds the documentation of performance art.

For Open House London 2007, there will be two co-existing performances within the Beaconsfield venue at 22 Newport Street. Each activity will reflect the respective characters of two linked sites: the remaining wing of a Victorian school building and its adjacent double railway arch.

A cultural quarter in Vauxhall/Kennington? How likely is that? The truth is, it’s not so far fetched. When plans for an Artisan School, an Arts and Crafts Museum and Damien Hirst’s proposed Newport Street development are positioned against galleries, art spaces and studios already flourishing in the area, the idea is not only a distinct possibility, but almost a reality.

One hundred and sixty years of history impregnates the wooden floorboards of the Upper Space at 22 Newport Street the former Lambeth Ragged School where London-based composer, artist and musician Leafcutter John is in residence. During June and July the old wooden floor will be symbiotically linked to software specially written to coax out sonic stories, old and new, re-told with the arrival of each visitor.

An ambitious new exhibition project by London Fieldworks. Working with the legacy and personal myth of Walt Disney, the commission embraces the latest developments in animatronics, primal hibernation patterns and the practice of cryonics in its exploration of fantasy and death.

For Open House London 2006, Carina Diepens will animate all three spaces at Beaconsfield with a series of her living sculptures. Using cloth, thread, metal, coal and human beings, Diepens’ sculptures create a tableau vivant that intermittently comes to life.
