Taking the act of looking as a starting point, In Whose Eyes? explores questions of female subjectivity, representation and power in contemporary Western culture. Who is made visible – or excluded – and how they are represented in culture is highly political and impacts on people’s lives in numerous intersectional ways.

Foam Talent | London 2018 presents 20 artists – all of whom have been selected for their exciting and creative approaches to the medium. These talented image makers introduce us to a wide range of media and digital aesthetics, which are applied in unique and unexpected ways throughout the exhibition. The exhibition will be officially opened by Simon Baker, director Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP), Paris.

Beaconsfield commissions: Mic Drop – part of Jet Black Futures 1
Keith Piper is a Black British artist of international significance and Beaconsfield is proud to have commissioned the latest digital work in the artist’s oeuvre, Mic Drop. The new work is contextualised by the first London screening of Unearthing The Banker’s Bones (2016), an Arts Council Collection 70th Anniversary commission.

A body of new, related works by London based artist Seb Patane, that lie between the fields of art and music. All four works are in some way re-mixed, addressing notions of authorship through drawing other artists– Gustav Metzger, Pablo Bronstein and Black to Comm – into the creative process.

Curator Taru Elfving and artist-researcher Edwina Fitzpatrick are joined by IC-98 artists Patrik Söderlund and Visa Suonpää on Skype from Finland in a public discussion chaired by Beaconsfield’s Naomi Siderfin that focuses on art projects that combine the visionary with a practical approach to the omnipresent spectre of environmental change.

Meditations on the Anthropocene continues an ongoing relationship between Beaconsfield Gallery Vauxhall and Finnish artist duo IC-98 – Patrik Söderlund (b. 1974) and Visa Suonpää (b. 1968) – whose projects combine research, text, drawing and animation.
